Bonnyville

The Bonnyville Friendship Centre hosted a powerful evening of reflection and remembrance at the Bonnyville & District Centennial Centre to honour Missing, Murdered, and Exploited Indigenous People (MMEIP).

The fieldhouse was illuminated in red—a symbol of awareness and remembrance—creating a moving atmosphere as guests gathered for the ceremony and banquet.

The event featured keynote speaker Rachelle Venne, CEO of Esquao, the Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women, along with heartfelt messages from several speakers who shared stories of loss, resilience, and healing.

The Bonnyville Friendship Centre was also deeply honoured by the presence of the Alberta Native Friendship Centres Association (ANFCA). Joining in person were Chief Financial Officer Deidre Lapointe, Chief Operating Officer Staci Poirier, and Special Initiatives Manager Kody Taylor.

“Their unwavering support, dedication, and leadership in delivering impactful initiatives across the province is not only appreciated—it is empowering,” said Executive Director the Bonnyville Friendship Centre, Janet Gobert. “The strength of our collective work in reconciliation and justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2-Spirit people is magnified when we stand together. ANFCA continues to lead with integrity and compassion, and we are proud to walk alongside them on this journey of truth, healing, and meaningful change. Mahsi cho. All my relations.”
