Bonnyville, AB — The Bonnyville Friendship Centre is proud to announce an upcoming community vigil to honour Missing, Murdered, and Exploited Indigenous People (MMEIP). The event will take place on October 6, 2025, at the C2 in Bonnyville.
“This is a powerful community gathering to honour the lives lost — those who are murdered, went missing, and have been exploited,” said Angie Pappion, Mental Health Therapist with the Friendship Centre. “The event raises awareness and supports healing. The vigil offers space for families, survivors, and allies to come together all in one place, and a place of solidarity.”
The evening will begin with a free catered banquet at 6:00 p.m., followed by the vigil at 7:00 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. In addition to cultural performances, the program will feature guest speakers and dignitaries, including MLA Scott Cyr and MP Billy Morin, Shadow Minister for Indigenous Affairs.
“We are very excited and honoured to have them, as well as other dignitaries joining us,” added Pappion.
The vigil is open to all community members. “This is an event for Indigenous and non-Indigenous to be together. Healing happens when we stand together, not apart,” Pappion said.
Admission is free, but tickets are required to ensure adequate seating and meals for all attendees. Tickets may be reserved by calling the Bonnyville Friendship Centre at 780-826-3374 or picked up in person during regular office hours.
“We already have a lot signed up,” Pappion shared. “Please come on down for this amazing opportunity.”
